Edward Bulwer-Lytton
Edward Bulwer-Lytton 1st Baron Lytton was a British Rosicrucian, freemason and politician of the elite family Lytton, Secretary of State of Colonies from 1858 (during the Great Game with Russia). He influenced the occult revival of Theosophical Society, Fabian Society and the HOGD and later the New Age Church. He was educated at Trinity College Cambridge and married to Rosina Doyle Wheeler. In 1871 he wrote Vril the Power of the Coming Race about a traveler who discovers an utopian Inner Earth (underground) antediluvian civilization of angels, a race of ancient Aryans with mental powers (Orion Nordics). |

An event was organized at Royal Albert Hall with Egyptian obelisk, Bovril meat extract and Henry and Beatrice Battenberg (House of Hesse, rosicrucian Order of the Garter) to popularize the book and the nascent science-fiction genre. He interpreted Vril as a sort of electricity.
He lived at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire.
He and John Auldjo were friends of archeologist William Gell (Royal Society, digs at Pompei). He was a friend of Charles Dickens, Paschal Beverly Randolph and Eliphas Levi.
He was a member of the Orphic Circle who conducted séances and evoked spirits in mirrors and crystals with Emma Hardinge Britten, who co-founded the Theosophical Society.
He was a member of the Atheneum Club (with statue of Apollo) like Humpfrey Davy, Michael Faraday, Henry John Temple, Charles Darwin, AC Doyle (HOGD), Charles Dickens, Louis Lucien Bonaparte, Richard Burton, Thomas Huxley, William Wilberforce, Rudyard Kipling, James Maxwell, Robert Peel, John Ruskin, John Russell, Robert Luis Stephenson, Herbert Spencer, John Stuart Mill, Lewis Carroll, Benjamin Disraeli and Thomas Carlyle.
He was also a member of L'Aurore Naissante (Golden Dawn).
He wrote the novels Godolphin, Rienzi, Zanoni, Paul Clifford and The Last Days of Pompeii. He wrote a play about Cardinal Richelieu. He coined the phrase 'the pen is mightier than the sword' and 'dweller on the treshold' (concept used in kabbalism, related to the Abyss). His work influenced Helena Blavatsky's theory of Root Races of Hyperborea and Atlantis.
In 1842 Richard Wagner made an opera of his novel Rienzi.
In 1862 after King Otto I abdicated, he was offered to become the King of Greece.
His son Robert Bulwer-Lytton was educated at Harrow School and University of Bonn and married Edith Villiers. He was appointed by John Russell and was Viceroy of India under Queen Victoria from 1876 to 1880. He was a Social Darwinist and friend of Benjamin Disraeli (Rothschild).
His daughter Emily married Edwin Luytens and was a Theosophist agent who worked with Jidda Krishnamurti. His other daughter married the brother of Arthur Balfour. His son Victor was a member of the rosicrucian Order of the Garter and became governor of Bengal from 1922 to 1927 (ruled by EIC).
Edith Villiers was the granddaughter of mason George Villiers. Charles Villiers was educated at EIC College. The Villiers family was associated with the Order of St John.
